Crew

Machiel Amorison
Producer/Director

“Mata Hari has been a story in my family for years. My Great Grandmother supposedly was in class with Mata Hari… and so when 2017 came up I realized that would be a good time to make a documentary.”

Susan Wolf
Producer/Director

“One day out of the blue, Machiel called and said, he wanted to make a film about Mata Hari. He asked if I would help him. I said, Who’s Mata Hari? I really had no idea.”

Florence Rapati
Actress/Dancer

“I think what you can see is that Mata Hari became another person when she was dancing, she really became the story and that’s what I also tried to do.”

Frank van Wanrooij
Composer

“What we have here is a scene from the film…. What I do first is I want to have a feeling for what the editor wants… and then I try to give my own twist to the music… here she lifts her arm, the flute melody goes up, all very flowing, all very amorous.”

Walther Vlaanderen
Photographer

“While photographing I tried to combine two styles, the style from the early days and the contemporary style…. The old photography was mainly based on sepia images. I wanted to show those sepia colors without losing the other colors and you will see that element in all my photos.”

René Wielings
Casting Director

“To find a 2 year old boy who was going to die, that was difficult. When the parents heard that their child could play a role, they said “Yes”. And then I said, well he had to die afterwards and he has to lie down in bed for one and a half hour. But finally, I found somebody.”

Rose Litjens
Creative Consultant

“The first thing that struck me was one of Mata Hari’s school friends described her as an orchid among dandelions. She knew she was special.”

Thekla Reuten
Actress/ Voice of Mata Hari

“I slowly build a character. And when it is necessary I borrow emotions from my own life, from the past. That is a bit like prostitution, but it is the way it works.”

Dutch actress, Thekla Reuten is a star in her native country, having led two films to Academy Award nominations — “Everybody’s Famous!” and “Twin Sisters.” She made her international breakthrough in Martin McDonagh’s “In Bruges,” opposite Colin Farrell, and has since starred in “The American,” opposite George Clooney. This year Reuten stars opposite James Nesbitt in the second season of Sky’s “Stan Lee’s Lucky Man.” Thekla has joined Jennifer Lawrence in the cast of Fox’s spy thriller “Red Sparrow,” which will be released March 2018. The story follows a Russian intelligence officer (Lawrence) who is ordered against her will to become a “Sparrow,” a trained seductress, and to operate against a young CIA agent. Thekla Reuten is an undeniable front-runner in the new wave of European actresses lauded on the international stage and screen.
